Krka National Park

It is located in the Šibenik-Knin County, about 80 kilometres along the coast from the luxury resort Queen Beach Resort , which houses modern apartments for families with children.

Krka National Park is a vast area that includes several preserved and slightly changed ecosystems that stretch through 109 square kilometres.

There are five possible entrances to the park area, Skradin, Lozovac, Roški slap / Laškovica, Burnum / Puljane, Kistanje / Krka Monastery. Depending on how you come, by boat, car or hiking – biking trail.

Why visit Krka National Park

Despite the fact that the purpose of this national park is primarily scientific and educational, it offers a large number of facilities for visitors.

We should not forget the boat trip and walking and cycling routes that pass along the waterfalls and provide a unique experience of untouched nature.

One of the specialities is Skradinski buk, the longest waterfall of the river Krka.

Certainly, the most famous place is the island of Visovac, where the Franciscan monastery of Our Lady of Mercy and the church of Our Lady of Visovac is located.

Important archaeological collections, valuable books and incunabula are kept here.

One of the most beautiful hiking trails in Croatia “Stinice – Roški slap – Oziđana pećina”.

It stretches for 8.5 kilometres and is equipped with panels with detailed information about flora and fauna.

The walled cave is a place of exceptional historical importance where the presence of all Neolithic cultures in the Adriatic area has been confirmed.

Some of the other sights of this national park are Roški slap, Krka Monastery, Manojlovački waterfalls and the first in a series of seven waterfalls, Bilušića buk.

An unavoidable pearl of ancient history is the Roman military camp, Burnum. Remains of weapons, tools and various objects used at that time can be seen in the Eco Campus of Pula.

A unique experience is participating in the ethnic presentation of restored ethnological monuments.

The mills present grain milling, washing and stepping cloth, weaving bags and rugs, forging horseshoes, ploughing, sowing and the like.

There is also a souvenir shop within the national park to preserve the memory of the visit.

Vegetation of the Krka National Park

There are about forty pits and caves in the area, while along the river there are as many as a hundred.

Krka National Park has rich and diverse fauna and a special attraction is an underground fauna in which there is an endemic human fish.

From the animal world, it is important to mention the otter, the snake Shara polar bear, wild cats.

There are also numerous species of fish that are mostly among the rare and endangered species, which makes the river Krk one of the most valuable natural units in Croatia and even Europe.

Thanks to its excellent geographical position, the park has an extremely diverse flora with more than a thousand species.

From swampy vegetation, plant communities in the crevices of steep limestone rocks, forests to shrubs and grasslands, the park are full of rare and endemic plants. One of the best places for eco tourism in Spain.

The climate is temperate, with very sunny days and mild wind, which makes the activities of touring the park much more pleasant.

Before visiting the Krka National Park, it is important to study the instructions and warnings in order for this example of an enchanting natural whole to remain so.
